Why Drywall Installation Should be Handled by a Sydney Plasterer
October 5, 2016
Many people feel that they would be able to handle drywall installation themselves and try to turn it into a weekend project. While there are a number of DIY enthusiasts that do tackle this job expertly, it’s not something we at Sydney Wide Plastering recommend. Here are some facts you should keep in view when you are planning on embarking on this project:
Basics of drywall plastering
Regardless of whether you want to just repair a small portion of your drywall or want to actually install it in a new room; there are some basic things you would need:
- Apart from all the tools and the drywall sheets, you must keep in mind that you would have to carefully cut opening in the sheets for electrical openings etc
- If you are doing any overhead work, that can be quite exhausting and tedious
- You also need to have a basic understanding of home construction when you try to tackle drywall installation
- You would have to learn how to create a seamless surface and how the mud and tape have to be applied to ensure that all the surfaces look smooth
- You would also have to sand the surface of the drywall to make it ready for the primer and paint that would come later
- The other thing to keep in view is that you need the time to complete the project within a decent timeframe. This means if you just have a few hours every weekend to dedicate to this task, it can take you weeks to complete the project
- If the room is too large, or you have decided to install drywall in multiple rooms, you will need even more time to complete the project
- If there is an existing drywall, you would first have to carefully demolish that and then prepare the room for the new installation. It’s important that you remove all the electrical point plates and ensure that the electrical connections aren’t disturbed in any way
- You have to conduct a certain amount of research to identify which products will be suitable for your project and find materials that will last for a long time and fit into your budget
- The clean-up would have to be done well and you would have to discard all the wastage and dirt that may have accumulated during the course of the drywall installation
